Helping Parents Become the Best Guide for Their Adult Children
As your coach, I’ll provide you with all the resources you need to play your part in the development of your adult children. Here are some of the ways I’ll help you:
Supporting, Not Enabling
Your goal is to support and mentor your child, not to enable their harmful behaviors. We’ll explore how you can shift your role from a caretaker to a guide in your child’s life.
Letting Go of Control
Over-involvement in a child’s life can stagnate their growth and prevent them from making their own decisions. I’ll help you guide your child toward becoming self-reliant.
Setting Healthy Boundaries
Does your adult child cross your boundaries or overwhelm you with unreasonable demands? We’ll work on how you can communicate and assert your boundaries effectively.
Managing Your Emotions
Do you feel guilt or failure as a parent because your child isn’t independent yet? Don’t worry. We’ll navigate these emotions and work on building an empowering mindset.
Navigating Financial Support
Is your child struggling to find a job after graduation, relying on you for financial support? I’ll guide you on how you can nurture confidence in your child to choose a stable career.
Improving Communication
Oftentimes, dependent adult children are feeling stuck themselves. I offer practical strategies on how you can create a safe, judgment-free zone for your child to talk things out.

Shifting From Codependence to Independence as a Parent
As a parent, it is natural to worry about your child and want to be present for them all the time. But there’s a fine line between supporting your child and creating a cycle of codependence. Codependency can hinder your child’s intellectual growth and self-confidence, keeping them from taking the lead in their own life.
If you’re navigating a codependent relationship with your adult child, here are some ways you can gently nudge them toward independence:

Frequently Asked Questions
My 25-year-old daughter still lives in my basement. Can I bring her to your sessions?
Of course! I have coached teens and adults of all age groups in my coaching practice. It is important to note, however, that I can only help if your daughter is willing to participate in my sessions. Coaching works best when the client is actively engaging in the process. If your daughter is ready, I’m more than happy to play my part in helping her grow into an independent adult.
Do you offer coaching for parents in Arizona?
Yes! Purposeful Life Coach operates in Long Island and Central Florida, but my services are available in Arizona and all other areas of the USA, covering all time zones.
My son struggles with substance abuse. Should I take him to a life coach or a therapist?
It depends. Therapists are licensed medical professionals trained to diagnose the psychological and emotional aspects of substance abuse. As a life coach, I can play a motivational role in helping your son focus on personal development throughout his recovery. A combination of both can be a great way to address all aspects of substance abuse.
